Since this humble site debuted in 1996 it has appeared in high profile print magazines and has been featured on popular web sites. Here are some of the places Fightsongs.com has been featured:
August 1999
Fightsongs.com was mentioned in the August, 1999 print issue of Sports Illustrated magazine as one of their featured web sites. The site gained thousands of new visitors and it was a very pleasant surprise.
May 1999
Fightsongs.com was featured in the May 22, 1999 Lockergnome newsletter! This e-mail newsletter (which I subscribe to and highly recommend) has a readership of over 130,000 users. It informs individuals about new Windows 95/98/NT downloads, fonts, themes, audio applications, computer-related news, tips & tricks, and a little bit more.
April 1999
Fightsongs.com was featured in syndicated columnist Dave Farrell's weekly column, Roadside Attractions. The story appears online at Universal New Media's website, UExpress Online and was seen in print in hundreds of newspapers around the nation.
July 1998 & October 1998
Fightsongs.com's first big exposure to the news media came on July 17, 1998 when it was featured on CNN Headline News as their Site of the Day. A three minute story about the site was repeated every hour. Apparently the folks at Headline News really liked the site because they made it their Site of the Day AGAIN later that year on October 11, 1998. The site was also linked to from their web site, CNN.com.
April 1998
This site was featured in the April, 1998 print edition of Yahoo Internet Life magazine. It was mentioned as part of a feature on college sports web sites. It was just a small blurb but it was the first time the site was mentioned in print.
September 1996
This site was created during a late night session while I was working in the Michigan State University Computer Lab. I thought it might be fun to see how many fight songs were actually online and to my surprise there were enough to start a web page with. Even more surprising after the site was launched was how quickly it took off. It soon was the most popular site on our student server and we realized that it was featured on Netscape's What's New page. Keep in mind that at that time, their page was THE place to find new web sites. The site started getting thousands of page views a week and the rest is history.
