NOTE:
Unfortunately I do not have time to respond to email from
people who haven't read these guidelines and tips.
Please
take a few moments to read this FAQ before sending me email.
These tips should answer most of the questions I get. If
you have any other questions, feel free to drop
me a line but only after you've read these.
1.
Why don't you have my school's fight song on
your list? How can I add my school's fight song to your
list?
2. My school's fight song is not on
your list or anywhere else on the web, can you put it online
for me?
3.Why doesn't the link work for some
of the songs? Why do I get a "404 Not Found" error after
I click on a song?
4. Why is it taking a LONG time for
the song to download? Netscape opened a new little window
but it doesn't look like anything is happening and I can't
hear the song, why not?
5. What kind of software do I need to
listen to the songs? Where can I get that software?
6. Can you tell me where I can find
lyrics for any of these fight songs?
7. Do you know where I can find a CD
or tape with college fight songs on them?

Why don't you have my school's fight song on your list?
How can I add my school's fight song to your list?
If you look closely at my links, I ONLY link to fight songs
that are already on the web. I do not actually record the
songs myself and put them on my server. They are all located
on either another company's server or on a school's server.
If a school's song is on the web and I haven't linked to
it, it's probably because I couldn't find it. So
if your school is not listed, the first thing you need to
do is go out on the web to search for it. A good place to
look is the school's athletic department website or their
marching band's website. If you find it, simply follow these
directions and I'll add it to my list when I do my next
update. Other fans looking for that song will appreciate
your time and effort:
1. Send me an email at tdb@okemosweb.com
with the URL of the song itself (not the URL of the page
you found it on...example: http://www.msu.edu/sports/sounds/pregame.wav)
2. Let me know how large the file is. (example: 500K)
3. Let me know the name of the song. (example: Michigan
State fight song)
4. Let me know what school the song belongs to. (sometimes
it's not obvious)
5. Let me know what conference the school is in.
6. PLEASE be sure to use "fight song page submission"
as the title of your email. I get lots of email and this
will make sure that I get it filed in the right place. Thanks!
2.
My school's fight song is not on your list or anywhere else
on the web, can you put it online for me?
No, I can't. There are several reasons for this that involve
a wide range of issues like copyright laws and server space.
But odds are that the song you're looking for IS actually
on the web and if you can find it, please look at question
#1 (above) to find out how to add it to my list. I'm sure
that many other fans from your school would appreciate it.
If you can't find your school's fight song on the web, you
should send an email to your athletic department's website
to tell them to get with the program and to put your school's
fight song online. Afterall, this isn't the 1990's anymore.
You'd be surprised at how many times fans have been able
to get their song online just by politely emailing their
athletic department or by contacting their marching band.
3.
Why doesn't the link work for some of the songs? Why do
I get a "404 Not Found" error after I click on a song?
As you can probably imagine, I can't keep up with all 100+
links all of the time. Occasionally schools move their fight
songs to a different location on the web (don't ask me why)
or remove them altogether. If you get a "404 Not Found"
error, please send me an email at tdb@okemosweb.com
with the title "Bad fight song link" and let me know what
doesn't work. If it looks like something is downloading
(or Netscape/Internet Explorer opens a new little window)
but you don't hear anything, please see question #4.
4.
Why is it taking a LONG time for the song to download?
Netscape opened a new little window but it doesn't look
like anything is happening and I can't hear the song, why
not?
If Netscape opened a new little window with an N on it,
then the song has probably been found and your browser is
downloading it. If it seems like the download is taking
forever, it's because these sound files are very large.
It also has to do with the speed of your school's server,
the speed of their connection to the web, the speed of your
connection to the web and the amount of traffic on the web.
Like I mentioned above, the files themselves are quite large
to begin with, so the best advice is to be patient. However,
if you get a "404 Not Found" error, please see question
#3 (above).
5.
What kind of software do I need to listen to the songs?
Where can I get that software?
Many of the new web browsers (like Netscape 4.0+ and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 5.0+) come with their own sound players.
So make sure that you have the latest browser. Also, a good
sound player for Windows systems is called Gold Wave and
it will play most sounds. There are several other sound
players for Windows and for the Macintosh as well. Try TUCOWS.com
for the latest and greatest audio players and browsers.
6.
Can you tell me where I can find lyrics for any of these
fight songs?
Please see Brandon
German's College Fight Song Lyrics. His site is a great
resource if you're looking for lyrics. Brandon has the words
to over 300 songs.
7.
Do you know where I can find a CD or tape with college fight
songs on them?
Yes! Please see this page
